I attended together with my daughter and the meeting was very friendly and informative. He showed us an image of the scan and explained the cause of the problem. He offered me three options for treatment and I chose surgery. He said this was the best option for a good outcome but there were risks and asked if I needed time to think about it. I was so confident in him that I immediately confirmed my choice.
On admission to the hospital on the day of the operation I was seen by the members of his team who would be involved and Mr Gnanalingham came to see if I had any worries or concerns.
Following the operation, he came to see me in the recovery room and told me it had gone well and that he would phone my daughter to let her know also. I was given constant care and attention during the next 24 hours and could walk and climb stairs unaided. I was able to go home the following day.
The aftercare I received ensured that the wound healed quickly and my muscles were strengthened. I no longer have sciatica pain and am fit and well thanks to Mr Gnanalingham and his team.
I had a Cervical Discectomy under the care of Mr K Gnanalingham in July of this year 2017. From the initial consultation, diagnosis, surgery and post-operative care I cannot praise Mr Gnanalingham enough. Throughout my journey I was kept well informed and very much participatory in the planning of my care.
The surgery itself went very well with no difficulties. Immediately post-surgery I was pain free with no nausea. I have Physiotherapy and I am making good progress. Prior to surgery I was struggling with severe pain and inability to perform the most basic of tasks. In the 6 weeks since having the surgery I am within a whisper of being able to do everything that I could do prior to the onset of the condition.
In conclusion I would just like to thank Mr Gnanalingham and his team for giving me back my quality of life.
Mr Gnanalingham consistently delivered excellent care after I herniated 2 discs in my lower back. He was very thorough in my diagnosis and has an excellent ‘bedside’ manner. Always available for any query or appointment I needed even on weekends and evenings.
Mr Gnanalingham was supportive of my personal choice and explained all my options in an understandable and patient manner.
I chose to have a discectomy. From check in to discharge I received excellent care delivered with a much appreciated sense of humour. I would not hesitate to recommend him.
As an aside Mr Gnanalingham works within BUPA policy limits so I received no supplementary invoices which I have previously incurred with other specialists.
After being diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome on both my hands by Mr Gnanalingham, I was booked in for surgery in March and July 2017. The procedure was under a local anaesthetic. Everything was very well organised and I felt very calm with Mr Gnanalingham coming to see me and explaining what was going to happen throughout the procedure.
He has a very calming manner and I felt I was in very good hands. The after care was excellent with follow up appointments to make sure all was ok. I have no visible scars on either of my hands and my recovery has been excellent.
I was referred to Mr Gnanalingham when I was in constant, excruciating pain and barely able to walk with a herniated disc and resulting sciatic pain. Mr Gnanalingham was very approachable and explained my options clearly. I decided to go ahead with surgery and felt in very safe hands.
The surgical team were all so helpful and reassuring. The procedure was a success and I received very good after care. Some months later, when I experienced some moderate, recurring pain (probably as a result of overdoing it at the gym!).
Mr Gnanalingham responded very quickly, arranged a follow up scan and spent time discussing exercise options and further management of the rehabilitation process.
Eighteen months after my surgery, I am still so grateful that I was able to receive treatment from Mr Gnanalingham and his team, as this completely gave me back my health and quality of life.
I was recommended to see Mr Gnanalingham by a previous patient of his, who was also a GP.
My disc had ruptured and was causing leg pain as well as a 50% reduction in the strength in my left leg. At my consultation every option was explained. Once I decided to have the operation, my time in hospital and the operation went according to plan. The likely post-operative issues had been explained prior to the operation, so there were no surprises.
In fact it was a surprise as to how painless my recovery was. Once home I did contact Mr Gnanalingham by email with a few questions, which were answered promptly.
1 year on from the operation, I am able to practice Yoga 3 times a week and partake in a group circuit training class twice a week. I consider myself to be back to normal and to that I thank Mr Gnanalingham.
In 2010 I was referred to the Neurosurgery department after trying numerous ways to relieve neck pain and return feeling to my left arm and hand. I was placed in the care of Mr Gnanalingham and was advised to undergo surgery in order to try to prevent the problem spreading to my right hand and reduce the pain. No promises could be made but I was hopeful that more feeling would be returned to my left hand also. I then underwent two operations within 2 years and am pleased to say that at the present time, 2017, I have no problem with either pain in my neck or numbness on my right side, and I have gained some additional feeling in my left hand.
I have also had problems with deterioration of my lower spine and visit Mr G at approximately 6 monthly intervals for Epidural injections. These are carried out within a half day and apart from a slight, sharp prick from the anaesthetic, are relatively painless and give a reasonable period of relief.
I am continuing with the epidural injections for as long as possible and would always wish this to be done by Mr G. In my opinion he is an extremely caring and considerate man as well as being a highly competent surgeon.
It is worth noting that a fellow surgeon of Mr G’s said if he ever had to undergo an operation of this nature he would wish it to be done by Mr G.
In March 2016 I was diagnosed by my Endocrinologist Dr Annice Mukherjee as having ACTH – dependent Cushing’s disease. She referred me to Mr Gnanalingham. This condition had caused me to gain a substantial amount of weight and had also dulled my faculties.
Mr Gnanalingham determined that I had a tumour on my pituitary gland and performed a trans-sphenoidal resection of left pituitary microadenoma in April 2016. The care taken by Dr Mukherjee and Mr Gnanalingham to explain my condition, the operative procedures and the prospects for recovery were much appreciated. The post-operative aftercare in the hospital was excellent.
Since the procedure I have lost 30 kg in weight, some peripheral oedema has disappeared and I am much more mobile not requiring any walking aids. Other medication for blood pressure has been substantially reduced. My cognitive powers have been fully reinstated and I have been revitalised in performing a leading role in a business requiring complex intellectual application.
It is now just over 12 months since the operation and I am substantially fitter than I have been for many years. I am continuing to be monitored by both Dr Mukherjee and Mr Gnanalingham to whom I am very grateful for the care and attention given to me in restoring me to good health.
In 2016 I was under Mr Gnanalingham’s care to remove a large non-functioning pituitary adenoma. During this time, I felt informed, reassured and confident in a positive outcome. Mr Gnanalingham is very professional, skilled and caring. He treated me and my husband with respect and I felt that my care plan was bespoke and that my concerns and wishes were listened to and addressed.
This life changing surgery was successful and my quality of life has improved. I am very grateful to Mr Gnanalingham. He is an exceptional man and I will forever be in his debt.
I was first reviewed by Mr. Gnanalingham in 2011 and after a series of consultations and an MRI scan, he diagnosed that I had multi-level disc degeneration. I have met with him a number of times over the past 6 years and he has advised me on how to best manage my condition without having surgery. At all times I found him extremely professional and helpful – and he put me at ease with the level of my condition throughout which gave me confidence and trust in his approach when surgery could have been a speedy but not necessarily appropriate response to my situation. Up until earlier this year I had managed to cope with the level of pain but following a scan in spring, we finally decided together that the time was right to undergo surgery. I underwent the decompression surgery on C5/6 and C6/7 in March of this year. The results were and are amazing – the incision is barely noticeable and the whole procedure was carried out in a very professional, calm and supportive way. The agonising pain from which I have suffered for a number of years has completely gone, I have no pins and needles and I can carry out all normal activity and will once again be able to take part in sports that I would not have been able to do had I not had the surgery. All in all, despite approaching the surgical procedure with some trepidation, I am so happy I did and I have full confidence in recommending Mr Gnanalingham to anyone requiring care and surgery.
